Remote Support

Clarion UK are able to provide the following services remotely for interviews, exams, lectures and tutorials:

  • Communication Support Workers
  • BSL Interpreters
  • Lipspeakers
  • Specialist Notetakers -Electronic Notetakers
  • Specialist Notetakers – STTR

Using our video conferencing technology we can connect Deaf students to your classroom environment via a qualified BSL interpreter or Communication Support Worker.

If the deaf student uses English as a first language, they may prefer the services of Specialist Notetakers or Lipspeakers. The support workers are remote and access is provided using our secure and encrypted Portal.

We also provide support in setting up Blackboard or alternative digital learning environments so that the Deaf student can access the lecture, interpreting support, captions and his peers discussions all at the same time.

For One to One Support we have the following services:

Specialist Mentor – Mental Heath

Prioritising your students’ mental health, wellbeing and physical health, is paramount in this period of uncertainty and worry. Studying or working from home during the outbreak may create additional stress due to isolation, changes in routine, loneliness and high levels of anxiety. Most importantly, our team of professionals, including counsellors, mental health nurses and psychologists will make sure the student stays focused on their degree, providing boundaries and tools to make sure they stay on track. We deliver this using only our online and secure platform.

Specialist Mentor – AS

Supports students on a one-to-one basis, identifying their individual needs and developing strategies to help them overcome their barriers. Our specialists are awake to the fact that remote working can increase or decrease stress on the student who is on the Autistic Spectrum Disorder and will ground the student in the short term while encouraging independence in the long-term.

Specialist 1:1 Study Skills – SPLD and AS

Give your students concrete skills in research, reading, writing, spelling, note-taking, presentation and proof-reading. Our specialists will also support the student in more strategic skills such as organisation, time management, planning, structuring and composition, as well as memory strategies. All these are very suited for remote working and our professionals all have experience in using the full suite of technology tools making sure the student achieves their academic goals and reaches their full potential.

Specialist Support Professionals for Deaf students

Our SSPs are Teachers of the Deaf with additional teaching qualifications and level 3 British Sign Language. They are able to work with the student in British Sign Language, modify their language use if needed and over the course of their study pass on the knowledge and tools needed to work from a native language into a second one at degree level.

We can also provide proofreaders and specialist transcription services remotely.

As your partner, we will continue to look for additional ways to support you in this challenging, unprecedented time. We are proud to provide you with a service that is effective, meets your budgets and on-demand. We also encourage you to share your ideas and plans with us on our facebook page.
